Testimonials:

I'm someone who was wary of firearms due to both the stereotypes associated with them and the unsafe manner in which I've seen them handled. That being said, due to certain circumstances,  I finally decided that I needed to start carrying a firearm to protect myself and my family, but not before I was comfortable with them.  Upon entering the classroom I was nervous and concerned I may not retain everything necessary to feel safe around firearms. That was put to rest quickly by Mr. Mulheron's kind and inviting nature. The class continued and I felt more confident with each hour, as Instructor Tom Mulheron was an incredible teacher. He's thorough, highly informative and deadly serious about safety. In other words everything I was looking for.  I want to especially thank Tom and Chuck for their academic yet comforting approach to handling such a serious subject. After taking the class I now feel confident with the knowledge I've retained and of being around firearms.

I can't thank them enough and I would recommend anyone, whether first time gun owner or just someone who's just never been properly taught how to handle a firearm safely, to at least take the Basic Pistol Training course. It could save your life and those you love by teaching you how to be safe, responsible and confident with your firearms. Pierce K.  July 2023

MANY MANY thanks to you and your staff; they all brought so much to the table and you are blessed!!  Thank you again for your awesome class and I cannot wait to sign up for more!!  Chantel P.  August 2022

My wife and I recently took the Atlanta firearms Basic Training Course. If you want hands-on Firearms training, this is the place to go. The instructors were simply outstanding in the classroom work and then the actual weapons training at the firing range.  If you think you know about firearms, throw out everything people have told you about guns and take this course. You will be surprised at what you will learn.  Thank you, Tom and your staff for 2 great days of instruction. We are much more comfortable with our weapons now. Richard W. July 2022

I took The AFT Basic Pistol Course in June 2022. I was nervous because I thought I would be the only woman, but the class was diverse. We spent the first day learning about safety and various aspects of gun handling down to taking one apart and learning how to clean it. Also, we learned about gun etiquette and concealed carry insurance. Tom and Chuck were friendly, knowledgeable, and broke things down so everyone could understand. The second day we went to the range and we were able to shoot various guns with 4 different instructors. It was nice to get tips from instructors with varying backgrounds (military, law enforcement, etc). They made the class fun, but safety was always the first priority. There were students that had many years of experience with gun handling and some with none at all, but everyone walked away feeling more knowledgeable. This class is worth the time and money. Take the course!  Annette J. June 2022

I was first introduced to Tom and his staff at a Sporting Clay shoot some years ago. They were very professional and well versed in everything they were doing, that's what impressed me the most. Then I found out that they conducted a  Basic Pistol Course I was more interested. My daughter was interested in buying and owning a gun for personal safety. I told her that she had to take a class before I would consider it. After she signed up I thought that I had never taken a True Class on Gun Instruction and thought it would be a good idea also. After the two day class with Tom and the staff I learned I had been holding a hand gun the wrong way for 30 years. It helped me to correct my shooting and made me a better shooter. I would highly recommend Atlanta Firearms Training to all level shooters. It is without a doubt well worth the money for this class. Jim S.  June 2022

Thanks to you and your entire team at Atlanta Firearms Training. Your Basic Pistol. Course class was outstanding. The class was extremely informative, well organized and professionally presented.  As you know, I had never shot or handled a gun before your class and I certainly had my reservations. The personalized and relaxed nature of your two day training program made me feel comfortable and I enjoy the entire process.  On day two we met at the firing range and I got a chance to shoot for the first “ever”.  With your constant focus on “firearms safety” and drilling in the “Four Fundamental Laws of Firearms Safety”, (take the class if you want to know what they are) l felt extremely safe and had a high degree of confidence in my ability to handle the firearms. I highly recommend your Basic Pistol Course to anyone looking to either learn about safe firearms fundamentals or looking to refresh or re-enforce their firearms awareness. Remember, shooting a fireman safely and correctly is a perishable skill.  Ken W.  August 2021

"I want to thank you again for allowing me to participate in your Basic Pistol Course this past weekend.  I had long considered taking a pistol course, but never actually followed through on it.  Now that I have taken your course, I wish that I had not waited so long to do so.  You AND your staff were excellent.  Highly informative, entertaining, down to Earth, and extremely patient.  As you know, before this weekend I had never fired a weapon in my life (54 years old) and only had a gun in my hand but one time.  So for a complete novice like myself, your class is exactly what I needed and was looking for.  I would highly recommend your course to anybody and everybody who has ever given even a passing thought at taking a pistol course.  I look forward to working with you again in the future as I embark on my firearms journey.  Again, many thanks." - Billy G. February 2020

"This was my first class with AFT, and it was an absolute blast! I had never used a holster before, but the instructors moved through that part of the class slowly to ensure everyone was comfortable drawing from a holster. The instructors incorporated a number of different drills into the class, which went a long way in making the class much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this class for any regular shooter who wants to take their pistol skills to the next level, or is simply interested in learning how to properly draw from a holster."  Jake M. November 2019

"I don't know where to begin! There is a powerful sense of myself that I now feel..a sense of calm & self assuredness I didn't have before this class. I had a fear of weapons yet I didn't want to live in constant fear of being a victim. I know I'm not in total control of anything. Yet, this class gave me confidence in myself by providing self-defense knowledge and training. That's all I could've ever asked for. I can't beat that! The advertisement is true to it's word: the training is highly comprehensive. The 2 days are worth it, and I believe I gained greater knowledge because the class was structured in 2 parts: learning about weapons then hands-on weaponry use! The Instructors and Co-owner who trained me care! They both are professional, personable, friendly, and humorous. I'm truly grateful to both Mark Zoghby and Tom Mulheron for the experience I had during this training; my thanks goes out to you guys! I recommend this class...you won't regret it." Frankie H. Rules of Safe Firearms Handling:

The rules of safe firearm handling are simple but effective. We give you enough firearms handling practice to begin to make the use of safe firearms handling techniques natural.

Pistol Construction and Design:

Understanding how your firearm works is critical for safe firearm handling, clearing of malfunctions, cleaning and maintenance. This course covers pistol design and function in detail.

Ammunition Types:

Ammunition comes in a bewildering array of designations. It is critical to load only the correct ammunition for your firearm and critical to select an ammunition type/design that is appropriate for your purposes. We cover ammunition design and function, ammunition nomenclature, and selection.

Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting:

Here AFT instructors take you through the fundamental skills for safe and accurate pistol shooting. The fundamental skills of aiming, breath control, hold control, trigger control, and follow through will be overviewed and practiced by the students with one-on-one attention from the instructors. One handed strong and weak side, and two handed positions will be overviewed.

Students will practice the conceptual skills involved in marksmanship using inert training pistols in class.  This enables the instructors to verify proper understanding of the concepts BEFORE you go to the range, ensuring that the productivity of range time is maximized.

 Firearm Cleaning and Storage:

Proper firearm maintenance and cleaning is essential for proper, safe, and reliable function of your firearm. We will demonstrate the cleaning and lubrication of a semi-automatic firearm in class and discuss the relevant considerations in the cleaning process.

Firearm Selection Considerations:

If you don't currently own a pistol, no doubt you are concerned regarding what type of pistol is appropriate for your purposes. Considerations of type, size, caliber, and magazine capacity all should figure into your selection process. In this segment AFT instructors will overview the available firearms, and hopefully give you an accurate perspective on which type and size of firearm will be appropriate for your purposes.
